We start our adventure at the top lodge – very excited to go on our two-night camp-out in the bush. We are well-prepared, packed with our pen knives, bird books, and everything we need to make the most of camp life.
We walk down to the bush camp and set up our tents. Some of us have never slept in a tent before. We tent with a friend – or one we have made on the walk down.
Our days are full of activities including bush walks, making rafts, and fun in the river. We learn the art of building fires and cooking our own food – sharpening our skills for our lives as Junior Rangers. Our days are filled with animal and bird identification, recording animal tracks and bird calls – culminating in the test in the big gazebo to see who remembers what.
After sunset, we go on a night walk – listening, looking, and finding. This is followed by hot chocolate and campfires – telling stories, remembering highlights and challenges overcome. Making memories, making friends at Gwahumbe’s Junior Ranger Camps.
