Guided Bush Walks at Gwahumbe in KZN
If you’re considering visiting Gwahumbe, but are hoping to see some of our inhabitants in a new way, consider booking one of our guided bush walks. This will allow you to get closer to your surroundings and allow you to discover a different side of the local flora and fauna. If you’re lucky, you might even find a new appreciation for nature in its purest form. Or at least be able to take home more powerful photos than before. Walking side by side with an experienced Gwahumbe ranger, you’ll learn new things about each tree, plant and animal.
Bush walks provide the most unique perspective of the African bush. They get you away from the car and into the bush. From the smallest insects to some of Africa’s most majestic animals, you’ll discover the subtleties of the wilderness which are often overlooked when exploring by vehicle.
Our game reserve is home to over 230 bird species and with the quiet trail of walking on foot, it allows for fantastic birding. Our comprehensive bird list was compiled by leading African birder, David Hoddinott, who conducts regular bird outings in the reserve. Click here to download the list.
Guided bush walks usually best suit a group of 8 people or less. So if you’re looking for your next adventure to share with friends or family – bring them along and create unforgettable memories! Aloe Ridge, Fig Tree, and the dam are some of the major landmarks for walkers who are keen to hit the trail.
Here’s some feedback from a lovely guest who spent the day at Gwahumbe:
A hidden gem an hour from Durban!
“We visited Gwahumbe as day visitors and from my first enquiry from Ali until we departed with Sthe the experience was exceptional. Visiting Gwahumbe you are welcomed with warmth and genuine care. The reserve is great for a 4×4 adventure and the arrangements insofar as lunch and refreshments are concerned are efficient and exceptionally tasty! We will certainly visit again!”
